Freelance Tuba Player and Educator

ABOUT ME

Reid Cox is a freelance tuba player and educator located in Morgantown, WV. He is currently pursuing his doctorate of musical arts with Carson McTeer at West Virginia University. He received his master of music degree from the University of Denver where he studied with Warren Deck and Kathy Brantigan. His bachelor of music is from Baylor University under the tutelage of Dr. Kent Eshelman.

 

​Reid is an avid performer, serving as principal tubist with the Altoona Symphony Orchestra. He has recently performed as substitute tubist with the West Virginia Symphony, tubist with the Denver Brass, and substitute sousaphonist with the Guerilla Fanfare Brass Band. Reid enjoys playing music in a variety of ensembles, from symphony orchestras to funk bands to tuba ensembles.

 

Reid is also passionate about music education. He has been teaching tuba and euphonium lessons privately since his sophomore year of undergraduate. Highlights of Reid's teaching include being a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Denver where he provided non-major students weekly lessons as well as led studio warm-ups. He also volunteered at Through the Staff, an organization dedicated to making music education more accessible.

 

When not playing the tuba, Reid enjoys working on electronic music, reading, cooking, and spending time with his wife.
